Anne is also a certified fitness instructor, facilitator and yoga exercise specialist. Three years ago she created the "Movemental Dance" program, which uses movement as a way to treat emotional, cognitive and physical problems. It is based on the premise that the body and mind are interrelated. Anne has already proven through her work in nursing homes that movemental dance is successful and valid with older persons who have difficulty with physical, thinking and social issues. Anne currently works with about 100 seniors, many of them in wheelchairs or Alzheimer patients, to improve their quality of life using structured movement techniques. She uses music from around the world to get seniors to get active at their own individual pace, sometimes getting them to use tambourines and other aids. The main thing I see is the joy they (seniors) have when they are moving to music, said Anne. This versatile teacher also offers group Yoga classes at the workplace, and Anne is qualified to give therapeutic massage. Anne has also created "Artivity" which differs from traditional art in that the emphasis is on the process of creating rather than on the end product. It is a creative process, suitable for all ages, especially for those who are experiencing many life changes. Anne continues to volunteer in and out of our community. She has co-facilitated with the Windsor Sacred Circle Dancing group, worked with local circle dancing groups, participated on the Art Committee at Riverview Gardens, and helped Blenheim Nursing Home with their accreditation.
